Duathlon/4th of July

Mark participated in a duathlon (run/bike) in Tinley Park last weekend. He did a great job and we were there to support him.

How do you entertain young kids during the race? Find a ramp for them to play on!

We spent the 4th of July weekend at home. We went to two neighborhood parties and the kids had a great time at each one. A different set of neighbors put on a pretty fantastic fireworks show on Sunday night. Aunt Kim and Aunt Jenny came over and we let Abbey stay up until 10:00 to see the entire fireworks display. She was so cute and loved every minute of it. On Monday, we took the kids to the Homewood parade. Abbey was really into the parade. Owen loved seeing the loud fire trucks-we were worried that he might be afraid, but instead he proved us wrong with huge smiles and pointing at the trucks. We then starting bribing him with the suckers Abbey was collecting during the parade because he wanted nothing to do with sitting and watching-he would rather walk around on his own. Thankfully, we made it through the parade and then headed to Grandma's house for an awesome lunch. All in all, it was a great family weekend.

Yep, Owen is drinking out of a princess cup :) Also note the awesome crocs he is sporting. So far, this is the only pair of sandals that will fit his feet! Not the best for support, but on a super hot day it works.
Abbey-anxious for the parade to start!
Owen-already less than thrilled with the sitting...parade hasn't started yet.

 Owen-amazed by the fire trucks.

Abbey has a blog!

After some pressure (you know who you are!) Mark and Beth have created a blog for Abbey. It's hard to believe that she is almost 13 months old by now and how fast this last year has gone. Abbey is taking many steps at a time these days along with her crawling. Her words include da-da, uh-oh, hi, hi charlie, and possibly thank you....notice that ma-ma isn't included in her list yet! I don't take it personally-I get all of the hugs and kisses a mommy could ask for from this sweet baby. Being a teacher is awesome because I'm able to get a taste of being a stay at home mom in the summer. Abbey loves to play with her toys and dog Charlie, tear things apart, pull on the toilet paper roll, climb anything she can get her little hands and feet on, push her shopping cart, go into the pantry, among other fun games:) We adore her and will try to add to this blog weekly to share her with you!
