18 Month Update

Owen saw the doctor for his 18 month well check on Monday. He is doing well and has made a huge amount of progress since the doctor last saw him. His growth is still way off the chart, but the doctor pointed out that he just recently started walking and also that he has been way off the chart since birth. He is extremely tall at 37 inches and a solid kid at 36.11 pounds! Owen was screened for speech again this week and was found to have a 22% delay, which does not qualify him for services-he needs to have at least a 30% delay. We have mixed feelings about this. On one hand, we are happy because we thought he was further behind than he actually is. On the other hand, we would like for him to get speech now if he is at all behind. We are going to think about it and look for private services if needed-right now everything is being handled through Early Intervention. The good news is that we have seen a huge increase in his language skills since he started walking! Owen does a great job with following simple directions and is able to understand a lot. He loves playing with Abbey and the dogs. He also loves hats, sunglasses, beads, headbands......maybe we should increase our level of boy toys! ha ha ha
